FAQ(frequently asked questions) In this section, Dr. Way responds to a number of questions often asked by clients. You are welcome to phone Gayle or contact her by email for more information. Do I need a referral from my doctor to see you? No, you are welcome to call me yourself. In some cases, your insurance carrier may request a referral from your physician. How long does it take to get an appointment with you? Depending upon your flexibility and level of need, an initial consultation appointment can usually be scheduled within one to two weeks and sometimes within a day or two. If you are clearly in need of more immediate assistance, I will do my best to meet with you within 24 hours. How many times will I have to come and see you? I am happy to accommodate a variety of needs and goals. Some consultations may only require 1 or 2 sessions. Most people make substantial progress toward their goals in 8 to 20 sessions. People who are dealing with particularly complex issues or deeply entrenched behavioural patterns may require far more sessions than this. Some people work on issues intermittently, taking breaks from therapy in order to practice and consolidate their gains, then returning to work more intensively again later on. Following a period of intensive therapy, other clients may elect to see me regularly but on a less-frequent schedule to receive less intensive but ongoing support. For still others, I function as a type of reliable "general practitioner" to whom they return at various points during the lifecycle when they feel in need of a "tune-up" or specific assistance. How much does therapy with you cost? This again will be unique to your needs and situation. My fees are well within the British Columbia Psychological Association's recommended guidelines. You might be assisted in paying for psychological services by your employer's extended health benefits package or employee assistance plan. It is important to note that fees paid to psychologists are tax deductible under the medical portion of your income tax. I will also consider granting a limited reduction in fees to clients who are living on limited or fixed incomes as a result of full-time university enrollment, retirement or other constraints. I strive to make the therapy process as effective and efficient as possible. This is particularly the case with Energetic Self-Manifestation (ESM) which has been observed to accelerate the self-change process. It is my belief that the changes in oneีs life brought about by therapy pay huge dividends in terms of the financial investment. More specifically, in my opinion, therapeutic self-investment, more than any other type of investment, leads to the potential for increased life happiness and life satisfaction. How confidential is what I say to you in therapy? I take the issue of client confidentiality very seriously. I am committed to keeping all information shared with me confidential, unless I am given your written authorization to do otherwise. The only exception would be situations in which patients might pose a threat to themselves or another person. |
