Energetic Self-Manifestation (ESM) ESM & You This website represents my invitation to you to learn about and participate in the process of Energetic Self-Manifestation or ESM on a short-term or longer-term basis. Moreover, I am recommending this therapeutic approach to you because I know it both professionally and personally to offer the deepest and most comprehensive changes to oneself and the way one relates to the world, than any therapy I have come across. Furthermore, the changes realized, regardless of where you elect to stop on this transformative journey, are lasting. There is no honey-moon effect with behavioural gains and changes fading over time.ESM benefits everyone from a baby in the womb to the very elderly. As a psychologist, however, I am currently registered to only see men and women from ages 17 to 70 years of age. Such individuals may choose to see themselves as straight, gay, bi or transgendered. Let me begin by sharing my experience with you. Why ESM?I am a Clinical Psychologist with a special interest in Transpersonal Psychology, which stands at the interface of psychology and spiritual experience. As a Registered Psychologist with over 25 years experience, I have studied long and hard to learn effective ways of helping people to heal psychologically and emotionally. However, again and again I became aware of the shortcomings of the many therapeutic approaches and techniques I practiced including empirically validated therapies. Moreover, despite having undergone four years of more traditional therapy with excellent therapists and owning enough self-help books to stock a bookstore, I seemed unable to experience myself as a joyful presence in the world! Today, I believe that I am only able to continue my work as a psychologist because of my experience with Energetic Self-Manifestation or ESM: a psychoenergetic treatment process and philosophical approach to life which I have founded with my colleague Diane Raphael - a gifted Psychological & Medical Intuitive. My belief in the efficacy of ESM commenced when I observed the positive changes in my colleague, Diane, as she applied it to her life and the dramatic changes I observed in many of my clients - including individuals who had suffered chronic and severe traumatization. In my opinion, there is truth to that old adage "the proof is in the pudding". That proof has been realized for me, not only in my work as a psychologist and therapist, but through my personal journey of self-change and self-growth in working with the Energy from an ESM perspective. More specifically, I have learned to let go of fear I never even knew I had - fear which contributed to many sources of anxiety in me which prevented me from moving forward in my life with ease and joy. Of late, my reality has involved a series of challenges, involving repeated financial and emotional betrayal from individuals I once held dear to my heart. Believe me, some of these challenges have felt huge! It felt particularly painful when I eventually understood that at a deep level all betrayal is self-betrayal - and, thus, the reality that through the years I had betrayed myself in many ways! Nevertheless, I have gradually come to look upon such challenges as opportunities for growth as I have begun to embrace my pain while letting go of anger, fear and resentment. This has led me to an experience of loving much more unconditionally than I ever thought possible. This includes loving and accepting myself, imperfections, self-betrayals and all! Despite all my training and degrees, what I hadn't fully understood up until now was the impact of the presence or absence of self-love in one's life. When we love ourselves, we make such different choices for ourselves than when we dislike, hate or barely tolerate ourselves. The Tenets of ESM Energetic Self-Manifestation (ESM) is about the Relationship with Self and the Energetic Impact of Beliefs. It is a psychoenergetic treatment process and a philosophical approach to life based upon Universal Principles. The ESM Perspective is comprised of the following tenets: Everything is Energy.* Gary E. Schwartz, Ph. D. - a Harvard trained scientist with William L. Simon, describes a series of scientific studies supporting this contention in their book, The Energy Healing Experiments: Science Reveals Our Natural Power to Heal. Atria Books: A division of Simon & Schuster, Inc., New York: NY, 2007. The definition of "integrate" is to combine (one thing) with another so that they become a whole, while "transmute" means a change in form, nature or substance. How Does ESM Work? Practically, my therapy room contains an Energy Table rather than a couch. When I see you for an initial consultation session, I undertake a type of "getting to know you" assessment. Basically, I seek to learn about who you are - i.e., age, relationship status, where you grew up, what you do for a living and why you are seeking assistance at this particular time. I may do a family genogram to gain an understanding of your family relationships and dynamics; behaviour patterns etc.You are invited to experience the energetic process by reclining fully clothed, save shoes, on an energy table. I move my hands over your body as intuitively led. I touch very little, if at all, given my registration as a psychologist and the constraints against touching imposed by the College's Code of Conduct. In the early days, Diane and I believed that we were "conduits" for or "channelling" the Energy. Now we realize that we are simply experiencing ourselves as Energy and, in doing do, inspiring you to experience yourself as Energy. This may take the form of a variety of physical sensations including: warmth, coolness, tingling, a magnetic-like weight, deepening relaxation etc. as well as images, memories, thoughts and even the sound of voices delivering messages - i.e., "do not be afraid", "throw out the tv". As a clinician, my work proceeds with less stress and more ease as I am freed from needing to have "the answer". Rather, the psychoenergetic process reconnects you to what and who you are - your own inner wisdom and voice and, thus, your own answers. What Is So Special About ESM? It is important to underscore the fact that ESM is a co-creative process of Self-Discovery and philosophical approach to life and not simply a treatment technique or tool. This difference is very important. As a process, when pursued to its fullest, ESM involves us in opening up to all parts of ourselves - basically in allowing all parts of ourselves to speak and have a role in our lives. Mankind, as a whole, has never done this before because of a conditioned lack of trust in ourselves as well as the world around us. Given our evolving consciousness and the relationship we now enjoy as Energy on the planet, this opportunity is more easily realized by us. ESM is an energetically-based process which renders information locked in our subconscious minds, available to us. That is why we may come to therapy initially thinking that "X" is our issue only to learn through this process that it is really "Y" that is the issue. Under such circumstances, which are more common than not, it is not efficient or productive (nor constitute true healing) to apply a psychological technique to "X". Rather, by doing so, we preclude the discovery of "Y" altogether and short-change ourselves. We are often left in more despair as we realize our improvement in some area of our life is not lasting, or maybe even irrelevant to the unhappiness we have been experiencing. All too often those of us seeking therapy cannot pinpoint why we are unhappy and/or why we do not feel good about ourselves - regardless of the objective facts about our lives or achievements. ESM supports us in discovering what this unhappiness is truly about - versus what it might appear to be about. We consider ESM to be a transformative process because we have observed it to change lives dramatically. While the effects of embracing ourselves as Energy are subtle, the changes are profound. As we embrace this process, we become more self-realized, accountable and productive. We see hope where there wasn't any before. The course of ESM is different with everyone. However, the crux of this energetic process involves our changing from the core or the inside out. To this end, as Energy we go directly to the foundational issue and begin to work from the foundation up (i.e. our belief systems). Loving intent is the most powerful agent of change we have and the ESM process is the catalyst for unleashing this agent of change. Tools, alone, cannot do it. It is a Journey of Self-Love and Compassion. Who Can Benefit From ESM? Ideally, everyone possesses the potential to benefit from ESM. It simply requires an attitude of openess and intent. It is not the nature of the problem one brings which is the issue, but rather, the nature of the motivation for Self-Change. ESM is most effective if there are aspects of the philosophy or process which resonate for you. For example, are you ready to embrace the reality that you are an Energy Being and everything that implies? Even an openess to see what happens, a curiosity about what ESM is about is enough to begin! While some of us will quickly experience dramatic changes from ESM, for many of us it will be a longer journey to which we are called to commit. This tends to be so for those of us suffering from chronic, deeply conditioned issues wherein "loving ourselves" really means not giving up on ourselves. But even those of us who take longer to manifest the changes we desire, will notice changes along the way which help to reinforce our commitment to this Journey of Self-Compassion. In short, there is magic in ESM for everyone in that while the process is subtle, the changes are profound. That being said, it is an excellent choice for those looking to actively participate in creating their changes with Energetic support rather than looking for a magic fix. Treatment Findings Involving ESM Throughout the last ten years, Diane and I have treated individuals with a range of psychological issues using ESM. They have included, but have not been limited to: generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks; major depression; post-traumatic stress disorder; obsessions, obsessive-compulsive disorder and obsessive-compulsive personality; dissociative identity disorder; addictive behaviours and disordered eating including bulimia. While ESM has yet to undergo rigorous empirical testing, clinical observation and client self-report on a case by case basis reveal consistently positive outcomes in the treatment of the foregoing wide range of emotional and psychological problems. In describing their experiences, clients report feeling lighter, less burdened. Many report feeling a sense of becoming "more integrated" and of living their lives, challenges and all, with more ease. It is not unusual for clients to experience a sense of "euphoria" following a session wherein they describe feeling "high" as if on drugs. Moreover, while the course of treatment may be short-term (i.e. under 20 sessions) or long-term (i.e. over 20 sessions), the progress made relative to the nature of the issues, appears significantly accelerated over the duration of more traditional therapy. In the treatment of anxiety, symptoms have been found to be greatly reduced or completely eliminated. Individuals suffering from frequent panic attacks and the anticipatory anxiety which accompany them, stop having such attacks, while many individuals with extensive histories of chronic anxiety eventually report a complete absence of anxiety symptoms. Trauma survivors often describe themselves as feeling "cocooned" during the reliving of the traumatic event. Following the re-experiencing of even highly traumatic material, clients have been observed to leave therapy sessions stabilized and well-grounded without the need for additional intervention. This outcome has been so consistent that we feel safe in offering the promise of such stability and solidity to fearful clients as an encouragement for revisiting and processing a terrifying experience when it is necessary. While it has yet to receive more formal empirical validation, to date, we are greatly heartened by the efficacy which ESM demonstrates in the amelioration of deep-seated trauma symptoms. This extends to psychological conditions, such as Dissociative Identity Disorder which arise out of severe traumatic experiences. We are similarly excited by the promising results we have been receiving in the use of ESM in the treatment of addictions, obsessions and compulsions. Give the widespread role of addictive process in a myriad of psychological problems, including drug and alcohol addictions, sexual addiction and disordered eating as well as the complexity of the etiology of many addictions, we began to focus more intently on the treatment of addiction in an attempt to formulate effective treatment protocols. However, what we found was that addictive behaviours responded as readily to the general treatment approach that we use with any other issue. This is because all forms of addiction arise out of an attempt to buffer the emotional pain.
