About Me Dr. Way's therapeutic philosophy:  I believe that the ability to heal, both emotionally and physically, is an inherent part of our essential nature as Energy Beings. I see my role as a psychologist and psychotherapist as one of helping people learn how to embrace and to negotiate their own unique healing journeys. In my energy work, in particular, I see myself as a facilitator, while I also function at different times as a witness, a guide, a teacher and a coach.To this end, my clinical work reflects a highly intuitive, heart-centred approach to therapy and healing that incorporates a strong academic and clinical background in psychology, an understanding of psychological and spiritual laws, and my gifts as a powerful conduit for what I term "Sacred Energy". I strive to provide a truly "holistic" therapy that addresses the needs of Mind, Body and Spirit. Credentials: Registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia (#869) since 1983. Listed in the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology (CRHSPP) (#1400) since 1986. Background Information: In addition to operating a private psychotherapy practice, Dr. Way has provided psychological services at a number of institutions. She has also taught college and university courses. As an expert in childhood sexual abuse, Dr.Way was responsible for providing expert testimony in a 1992 court case that was instrumental in overturning the statute of limitations in B.C. As a result of this decision, the time limit available for a survivor to seek legal recourse for damage inflicted by a perpetrator now extends from the point at which the survivor becomes fully conscious of the long-term effects of the abuse. Dr. Way's institutional work has been extensive. She has provided psychological services in acute care psychiatry at the former Calgary General Hospital; assessment and treatment in behavioural medicine with chronic pain and traumatic injury at the Worker's Compensation Board of B.C.; personal and vocational counselling at the Student Counselling Centre at Simon Fraser University; and psychological consultation and treatment at the Burnaby Correctional Centre for Women (BCCW). In addition to her interest and studies in psychology and psychotherapy, Dr. Way has always had a strong interest in the realms of the paranormal and psychic experience. Thus, she has an extensive knowledge of the literature on life after death and near death experiences; past life regression and therapy; and psychic mediums and channeling. In recent years, both personal experience and the nature of clinical issues that have confronted her in her therapy practice have served to further stimulate Dr. Way's interests in the psychospiritual origins of illness and to explore spiritual paths to healing and transformation. As she has pursued her own healing and spiritual journey, Dr. Way has awakened to her own giftedness as a powerful conduit for healing energy and she has found her clinical decision-making to be increasingly informed by information which she accesses intuitively. It has been Dr. Way's journey, comprised of the foregoing training, experience and knowledge, which has led to her former work in Sacred Energy Healing and, most recently, to the co-founding of the more comprehensive psychoenergetic treatment and philosophical approach called Energetic Self-Manifestation or ESM. Background to ESM Dr. Way's current work in Energetic Self-Manifestation (ESM) has evolved out of her prior experience with Sacred Energy Healing. Moreover, Sacred Energy Healing represents a further evolution to Dr. Way's earlier experience with energy-based healing in the form of Therapeutic Touch. In her own words, Dr. Way describes her background in this area. In the mid-1980s I was trained in the natural healing therapy of Therapeutic Touch by the founders of this process: Dr. Delores Kreiger, Professor of Nursing at New York University and the late Dora Kunz, a respected healer and psychic. Therapeutic Touch represents a contemporary interpretation of several ancient healing practices which Kreiger and Kunz developed specifically for its application in medical settings where it has been utilized largely by nursing professionals. Thus, Therapeutic Touch has been scientifically studied for its effectiveness in various centres around the world. Such research has shown Therapeutic Touch to be effective in pain and stress reduction as well as in the treatment of burns, fractures, fever and wounds. It is currently being taught in 72 countries worldwide. In recent years, both personal experience and the nature of clinical issues which have confronted me in my therapy practice have served to stimulate my interest in the psychospiritual origins of illness and spiritual paths to healing and transformation. By spiritual, I do not mean religious! While pursuing my own healing and spiritual journey, I have awakened to my giftedness as a channel or conduit for "healing energy". The presence of such energy is experienced with varying levels of intensity in my hands and fingertips. Over time I have begun to experience the nuances in sensation as constituting a type of "second language" which I am spontaneously reading throughout a therapy session. In this way, when I am seated talking to a client,the energy, which I am "running", conveys additional information concerning the importance of topics under discussion. If a client is lying on the energy table, while we talk, the sensations in my hands may be directing me to focus energy on a particular part of the body. Most of the time, this "running" of energy and the exchange of information takes place in a non-tactual manner without my touching the fully-clothed client, while at other times, with their permission, I may gently touch them. When energy is directed to a client, it is often perceived or experienced as a sensation of warmth, coolness, tingling or heaviness etc. Many clients report experiences of profound relaxation during the energy work. They become more somatically aware and, thus, conversant with what their bodies may be attempting to communicate to them. They are also better able to access emotions. However, unlike traditional therapy wherein one may relive the painful emotions of a past experience, in Sacred Energy Healing, one is aware of the emotional pain, bearing "silent witness" to it from a higher level of consciousness, but one does not relive the pain. Thus, one is not at risk for retraumatization in the same way or left reeling in pain at the close of a particularly traumatic session. Moreover, one of the more immediate gifts of Sacred Energy Healing is the higher level of awareness which one experiences in "running" the energy - a higher consciousness which previously required deep levels of meditation to achieve. I refer to the energy healing I do as "sacred" because I wish to acknowledge the fact that my skills are not the only ones at play here. Rather, I have witnessed an intelligence and loving gentleness and wisdom to the energy which suggests to me the presence of something much more profound. In working with the Energy, I experience myself as growing in "intuitive awareness" and I know that I am not working alone! I believe this connection is to the Source of Life or Spirit. Some of my clients are more comfortable in having me refer to "Life Giving Energy" or simply, "the Energy" and this, I'm happy to do. It is not necessary for clients to be spiritually-oriented in order to work with me and this is definitely not a prerequisite in order for them to benefit from the Energy. In fact, one of the wonderful things about the Energy is that it provides direction and healing to us whether or not we "believe" in it - we simply have to be open to the process. Like Therapeutic Touch, Sacred Energy Healing requires the practitioner to adopt the steps of centering, focusing and setting the intent at the beginning of a healing session. Of these steps, the most important is setting and holding the intent of sending love and healing. However,in contrast to other energy-based healing therapies, there are very few, if any, techniques or rules attached to "Sacred Energy Healing", which represents a highly fluid and dynamic approach to healing which is both more powerful and yet, simplistic in its approach. The fact that things are kept simple arises out of a respect for the superior intelligence, at hand, and represents an attempt to offer the energy as much opportunity and openess as possible to do what it needs to do in order to facilitate healing for the individual involved. This more open approach to the Energy offers an accelerated and multidimensional healing experience which has been observed to manifest in profound instances of emotional and physical healing.
